The Pencil Case

The Pencil Case

Many people have replaced their pencil case at least once in their school life, including me. The first pencil case I had was in elementary school. Most of them were made of metal at that time. The rectangle box was as wide as a book. The surface was painted with animal drawings. Inside the box, a thin metal sheet separated the box into two layers and was painted as well. It was simple but good. Only the richer kids could buy the complex and multifunction boxes.

Those metal boxes were easily warped and damaged in children’s hands. As the result, a new pencil case was needed shortly. After several replacements, I was grade four. During that time, a new kind of pencil case that made up of cloth and zipper was emerged. But I didn’t like its soft looking. Nevertheless, I had my new case. The first impression wasn’t that rejective. The square cross-section of the case was similar to the metal box. The surface colour was a combination of dark green and orange, and a piece of leather of a mickey mouse was attached on the cloth.

Since then, this pencil case had followed me through elementary and middle school, and even to the foreign country. After several times dirtying and washing, the inside plastic layer gradually chipped off, but the cloth and its colour remained still. During those years, my mom asked me many times to change a new case, even had prepared one already, but none of them I liked. Four years ago, I finally bought a new case. However, that mickey mouse was still helping me care drawing pencils, erasers, and sharpeners.
